Isaac and Matthew

December 2005

A part of every kids responsibility is to embarass their parents, right... well a few nights before Christmas, we went to Best Buy. As we waited in line to make our purchase Isaac got very antsy. He was sitting in one of those truck carts but was neither content to stay in it or get out of it. He was getting increasingly distracting to the other shoppers so I attempted to contain him. So my dear child, as I try to pull him from the truck starts yelling at the top of his lungs, "HELP ME HELP ME! AYUDA ME! AYUDA ME!! (I guess just in case there were any spanish speakers able to offer assistance). The shoppers nearby were amused but I got quite a few looks from those not so close of, should we call the cops? I guess this one of those moments my mother wished on me when I pulled the same stunt as a child, "Yuh wait till you have yuh own children". Now I can give that knowing smile to Isaac, "Yuh wait till..."

What's in a name... well when you're 2 (and you're Isaac) names are a big deal! Isaac generally calls himself, "big boy" although he knows his name is Isaac. For example if he wants to see himself in the mirror, he will say " pick me up, see big boy". He also does not like his last name!! If you want to get him annoyed, just call him "Isaac Klein". He will scream and shout, "NO KINE, NO KINE!!" One day lately, he did tell us our names were, "Wicky Kine, Mama Kine, Iyack Kine and Nae Nae Kine" so I guess he is coming around a little. He is getting creative with his name too. Sometimes he will tell you his name is, Tony (his fav stuffed animal), or tree, or Jesus, or Papa or whatever he can think of!
His imagination is blossoming too! He now will dress his stuffed animals, make them use the toilet, drink milk, order breakfast, brush their teeth -- whatever he does they have to do! He also puts gas in his trains and changes their tires and uses his toy dinosaur and lion to attack and eat the trains, and sometimes us. (And no, we don't let him watch trailers for King Kong!)

He's also developing the wiley ways of children that dont need to be taught. I told him if he ate his banana he could have the cookie he had been begging for. Well, he agreed and showed up a few minutes later for the cookie, but with no banana in sight. I found it half eaten, hidden under a pillow, and he had "no idea" where it had gone. Hmmmmmm....

The concept of counting and values is becoming more concrete to him. I baked a batch of cookies and asked how many cookies Papa should get. "Two!" he said. And Mama? "Three!!". And how many cookies should Isaac get? "Five!!!" Yep, I think he gets it. (He ate seven)

More updates and pictures after Christmas!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!!
